PARAMETRIC ENGINEERING

Dynamic Bills of Material

SIM*plicity uses two types of Bills of Material. Dynamic (Parametric) and Static (Fixed or Conventional). Both of them permit the user to specify a wide range of product "Options and Features"  Static Bills of Material can work well but are relatively primitive requiring the creation of separate bills for each product or component.  Dynamic Bills replicate the thought process of an engineer or craftsman in constructing your products. Other advantages include:

Dynamic Bills are created as text files and stored in your "user" directory . They can be edited directly with Notepad but it is easier to edit them within SIM*plicity. Here is how to view and edit these files:

1

Select "Print Bill of Matl" on the Product Engineering Bar on the Accordion.
2 Select the Product that you are creating a  (Bill of Material) for - by entering the # or using the spin buttons next to the product #. (You can also create Bills of  Materials for components or assemblies, by selecting those categories)
3 Modify the item if necessary by using these tabs to change the "options and features. You can also change sizes and quantity. (Setup time and panel yield make item costing quantity sensitive
4 Right click on any line on the screen to display the Bill of Material.  (Note the information on the right side of the screen showing the values for a specific line #. You can edit the value for that line or any other line.)
5 Edit the item as needed. Don't forget to "Save" after editing is completed. When the display (editing)  window closes the item is regenerated to incorporate the changes you've made.  If you have a BASICS single-user system we will be glad to help create a few Dynamic bills for your products.  Network users receive detailed training and a detailed instruction manual.

(Important Note: If your SIM*plicity system uses both Static and Dynamic Bills of Material, be aware that by creating a STATIC  Bill for a specific item, it will always select that Bill first (instead of the Dynamic Bill used for the family of similar items.)
