From Quotation to Customer's Cash

Its important not to look at manufacturing as a stand-alone function, because controlling performance and true cost involves complex business steps from the initial quotation to the collection of cash. Successful company-wide efforts have to integrate stand-alone, factory-floor, support systems1 such as CAD and Panel Optimization with MRP2, Order Processing and Accounting. Creating a system that requires only one data entry from quotation to cash is the same as mechanizing a finishing line or using conveyors to tie together machining operations. You are reducing labor, increasing throughput, and eliminating material handling time and effort.

The heart of SIM*plicity is its ability to automatically create complete detailed manufacturing instructions at order entry . This includes shop floor documents with drawings that show all the optional features and size changes that the customer requests.

SIM*plicity is not a small cabinet shop cut-list program nor a 'one-size fits all industries" MRP system. It was developed for volume cabinet and furniture producers who mix both stock and made-to-order products, offering them in non-standard sizes and with different surface treatments, (finish, veneer, fabric, etc.). Efficient production and inventory control of these options and features is our forte.

SIM*plicity is intelligent. It utilizes dynamic bills of material and combines them with virtual reality to create product drawings, avoiding the errors that creep into large-scale systems that maintain individual bills of materials for each option. Because SIM*plicity requires much less overall data, it is feasible for even the largest companies to run all their business systems on networked personal computers and for salesmen to have the complete customer order history on a laptop computer.

Systems have to be more than intelligent; they have to do what you need done. They have be more than "user friendly"; they have to go out and make friends within the company. Feldman Engineering created and supports SIM*plicity. We will modify it to meet your exact needs. We understand manufacturing and will work with you to create and maintain this system as a valued tool for all your employees.

Contract furniture and kitchen cabinet manufacturers generally use a format which predefines the "global" options -the common features of all items on the order. Then, as the individual items are entered, it specifies local options, (breadboard and end panel for the B244 cabinet). All the options, (plus size changes), are predefined and selected by pointing at a pick-list so it is impossible to select nonexistent styles and materials.

A text box and an engineering hold flag allow you to define orders for true specials. All other orders are automatically converted into manufacturing and inventory control data.

SIM*plicity acknowledges customer orders -your way. You can have any format your business requires, including:

  • a color picture of the product.
  • fax transmission.
  • customer specific language headings.
  • plain paper or use your existing forms

Pricing is automatic based on the options and features selected, the discount in the customer database, and the zip-code to which you are shipping.

Glossary

Bills of Materials  are the core of true manufacturing systems. They link together customer orders, manufacturing instructions with  material and labor requirements.

Dynamic (parametric) Bills of Material are used for entire families of products eliminating the need at most companies for 90% of individual Bills of Material. However, Static (Conventional) Bills of Material are still valuable and our system incorporates them with a full range of Options and Features
