Our 20th  25th   30th Year

The last five   ten years have gone by real fast. Busy, busy, busy - building fantastic factories and significant systems. What more can I say than the following   (Reprinted from Wood Works! - August 1995)?

Feldman Engineering Company was established in 1975 and our first clients were some of the companies I had helped during the prior five years when I was responsible for overseas production of furniture and sewing cabinets for The Singer Company. Exposure to European and Japanese technology at these factories was a good primer on productivity, but working with management and workers of many different cultures taught lessons never learned at school.

World travel became a drag and our business focused on North America where Wood Works! became our primary marketing tool. Our newsletter intermixes "I" ,"our" and "we". Howard Feldman is Feldman Engineering when assistance is requested with plant layout and manufacturing methods. These are areas where many years of wood products manufacturing engineering experience are essential and my signature reflects my unique ability and concepts.

SIM*plicity is another story. It has grown from a MRP system developed to solve specific furniture and cabinet manufacturing needs to a comprehensive business system. Although I provide the concepts and overall guidance, I know what I don't know - computer programming. Creating programs and technical support require expertise that I don't have but I've acquired the best .....just ask our clients how well we support them.

My thanks to Ellis, our program manager, for his ability and patience, and to all of the team who created and improved our original CAMS manufacturing software. Thanks is an understatement to Sheila, my partner and editor in chief, and our sons, Ira, who coded much of our original manufacturing control software, and Evan, who rightfully criticized our early efforts. Our clients are in the hundreds but each has become an individual friend rather than a project number. I am what I am because of them and I greatly appreciate their trust and friendship.
